David worked for nearly 40 years as a qualified social worker supporting people with mental health and housing issues. In Tower Hamlets David first worked as a rehabilitation worker for the multi-disciplinary team HHELP. People's health was not always stable which too often meant they would be rehoused only to again lose their homes. David was determined to make sustainable change in people's lives. He eventually gained the support of the local authority and the NHS Foundation Trust to set up a new project, Housing Link, which he would manage. The aim was to support people in keeping their homes, predominantly working within the local mental health hospital, ensuring that they didn't leave hospital without a place to go to, rather than again ending up homeless. Set up with David as the manager and one other member of staff, Housing Link grew to be a team of seven and has been providing vital support for the past 20 years. David fought for Housing Link to continue when funding was threatened and the highly regarded project was saved with the support of service users, local Unison members, East London NHS Foundation Trust and Tower Hamlets Social Care staff. Housing Link is a magnificent legacy of David's life's work.
